A crossing guard woman has served her duty for 55 years. Sandra Bellew is now 87 years old. She is dedicated to protecting young students from crossing. After more than half a century, she decided to retire.
Throughout her long and sincere career, she stood at a crossroads. Sandra ensures countless children's safety when they go to school. She became an important figure and was loved by students and parents.
Sandra first began to work as a crossing guard in 1968. She is crossing guard for Missouri’s Independence School District.
She did not earn a lot of money from this job. She enjoyed her career. Sandra even said she was "planning on going until she couldn't walk," according to Brightside.
When Sandra announced her retirement, the local community gathered to express appreciation for her service. Students, parents, and fellow staff members put on a touching farewell. The event was to honor her dedication.
They gave her heartfelt cards, gifts, and flowers. People also expressed gratitude to Sandra for protecting the young kids all these years.
After retirement, Sandra plans on keeping herself busy.
"I'm planning on just going swimming and doing water aerobics and exercise and try to keep myself strong and keep my legs strong, so I can stay going,"
said Sandra.
