Some time ago, Microsoft had developed a cell phone called Windows Phone.
Released in 2010, Windows Phone became a competitor to 2 well-known operating systems such as Android and iOs.
However, in 2019 Microsoft officially stopped the distribution and updates on Windows Phone.
Even so, Microsoft's CEO regretted stopping further development of Windows Phone.
Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella, said this to Business Insider.
Nadella admitted that Microsoft's decision to stop developing Windows Phone was one of the most difficult decisions he made.
"The decision that I think a lot of people talk about was our exit from what I call mobile as it was defined at the time," Nadella explains.
Furthermore, he regretted the discontinuation because if development continued, Windows Phone could have found an interesting feature.
"In retrospect, I think there could have been ways we could have made it work by perhaps reinventing the category of computing between PCs, tablets, and phones."
Microsoft Company has tried the cell phone market since the mid-1990s.
However, the company did not release a smartphone until 2010.
Despite the launch of Windows Phone, Microsoft confirmed in 2017 that it would cease development of new features and hardware for Windows Phone.
Then why did Windows Phone stop production?
According to Joe Belfiore, Vice President of Windows 10, Windows Phone stopped production due to lack of interest and lack of full support from developers to produce more phones.
Even so, the Windows Phone owned by customers can still be used, it's just that the product from Microsoft has no further updates.
