Meet Bella, the cat with the world's loudest purr. The 14-year-old cat from Huntingdon, UK, is now officially the Guinness Record holder for the world's loudest domestic cat purr. Her noisy purr was measured at 54.59 decibels.
The Spink family, Bella's owners for almost 15 years, always suspected that their cat had the loudest purr. They were often mesmerized by the loudness of Bella's purr, and Nicole Spink's late husband once complained that Bella's purr was louder than the TV.
Interestingly, this talent of purring loudly has been held by other cats before.
After enjoying her favorite dish, Bella happily gave a loud purr, which was then measured by the sound technician.
The Spink family's curiosity about Bella's uniqueness peaked when they decided to test just how loud the cat's purr was. With the help of a smartphone app to measure noise levels, they were surprised by the results.
Bella surpassed the Guinness World record for the loudest domestic cat purr. With this confidence, they officially submitted a record attempt.
The next level of noise is a frequency between 40 and 50 dB. This is the sound you can hear in moderate raindrops, as well as in everyday conversational speech.
However, it should be noted that Bella managed to break the record for a living domestic cat. She failed to surpass two legendary cats, Smokey and Merlin, who once achieved a purr noise level of 67.8 decibels, much louder than Bella.
Nonetheless, Bella remains the loudest purring star among the world's living domestic cats.
