Recently, Inter Miami had another victory in the League Cup. In the match held at Toyota Stadium on Monday, August 7, 2023, Inter Miami defeated FC Dallas 5-3 (4-4) in a penalty shootout. That sent them through to the quarterfinals.
In that match, Lionel Messi became the 'hero' of Inter Miami. La Pulga successfully opened the scoring in the 6th minute. However, the lead did not last long after FC Dallas caught up and a goal chase was happening.
Left behind 4-3, Inter Miami managed to equalize after Lionel Messi scored in the 87th minute. This made the two teams have to continue to extra time and ended in a penalty shootout.
On penalties, Inter Miami won 5-3 and booked their place in the League Cup quarterfinals.
